Single Sign ON (SSO) in iOS 7

SSO is a new native feature in iOS 7.

Enterprise single sign on. Authenticating into corporate apps is now as simple as doing it once. Enterprise single sign on (SSO) means user credentials can be used across apps, including apps from the App Store. Each new app configured with SSO verifies user permissions for enterprise resources, and logs users in without requiring them to reenter passwords. It is something like single sign in for several apps.

To make SSO (Kerberos) working on iOS7 you need 3 things:

1. On the server side: Kerberos environment + HTTP SPNego/Kerberos authentication configured. SSO in iOS works only for HTTP(S).
2. Configuration profile containing:
   • [Obligatory] Your Kerberos realm.
   • [Obligatory] Your Kerberos principal (usually username), this can be left empty - in that case user will be asked to specify it during the profile installation.
   • [Obligatory] List of URL prefixes of the pages allowed to use SSO. Wildcards cannot be used here, if the prefix doesn't end with slash character, it will be automatically appended to it.
   • [Optional] List of bundle IDs allowed to use SSO, if empty all applications are allowed. Wildcards in bundle IDs can be used.
3. Application that supports it, Safari and WebKit (UIWebView class) do. As described in WWDC 2013 Session Videos number 301, you have to use either NSURLConnection or NSURLSession class. This is a simplified example of the HTTP traffic when authenticating using the SPNego scheme:

The dialog with prompt for the Kerberos password (if the Kerberos ticket has not yet been granted/expired) will appear after receiving "WWW-Authentificate". Obj-C classes will handle automatically all the redirects and authentication process, so the only thing you need is to make a request to the login URL and allow this URL in the profile.

It is now possible to check the version using available from Swift2.0.

The syntax is as above, #Abailable (Platform version, ...) will be.
At the end * indicates that "otherwise specified with respect to other platforms." 
In other words, in the example above, iOS other than the platform (WatchOS,OSX will be that it is not specified in particular with respect to, etc.).

In addition, when the processing of post-conditions specified is large, it would be good to use the guard statement because the contents of the if statement would parentheses bad increases.

Google Glasses will soon be available to the public, according to the company. Are we ready?

The wearable computer will let you search as you walk, navigate, record what you see and share it, translate andmore. We haven't yet figured out which pictures to share on Facebook or how to make sure we don't tweet while drunk. Now we are going to have to figure out a whole new set of social rules.

Do you take off your Google Glasses in the bathroom, lest folks think you are recording? Is it acceptable to Google someone while you are speaking to them? Do you ask, "Mind if I post the conversation we just had online? I think our friends would love to comment on it".

On one hand, new technologies have always taken some adjustment. Jeff Jarvis writes that"The first serious discussion of a legal right to privacy in the United States did not come until 1890. The reason: the invention of the Kodak camera, which led to a similar moral panic about privacy, with The New York Times decrying “fiendish kodakers,” President Teddy Roosevelt outlawing kodaking in Washington parks, and legislators ready to require opt-in permission from anyone photographed in public. We negotiated our norms and cameras don’t scare us anymore. But now a new technology does."

This adjustment, however, takes time. We haven't yet developed norms to catch up with the many ways that technology and data both enhance and disrupt our lives. I am a responsible father if I check my nanny's driving record before letting my kids get in a car with her. But if I run background checks on the parents in our car pool, well that just seems odd - or does it? What are the rules for who I can text? If I have your cell number and would be comfortable calling, should I be comfortable texting? That circle seems a bit smaller, but what are the new social rules?

Behavior that violates social technology rules seems to be "creepy", for want of a more nuanced term. It's easy to blame Google or Facebook or the companies bringing us these technologies for the challenges society needs to now grapple with. But these advances are inevitable as science progresses. The access to knowledge these companies bring to the world is empowering individuals to challenge governments and bringing education to the impoverished. I guess we can put up with a bit of tension until we frame a new set of norms.

In the meantime, just do your best to not be creepy.

Git “Command Not Found” Error In Mountain Lion [Quickfix]

I just upgraded my Mac from Lion to Mountain Lion this morning. I must say the Mac OS just keeps getting better :). After the upgrade I just noticed that git was broken and I was getting the Command not found error.

To fix this :

• Download the latest git package from here.
• If you try and install the package directly, it will fail to install and would complain saying Unidentified source. This is due to the new Gatekeeper feature in Mountain Lion. To fix this go to System Preferences -> Security & Privacy and select Anywhere under Allow Applications Downloaded from section.
• Go ahead and install the package you just downloaded.
